Female spiders lay eggs after mating with a male spider. (She often has the male for a post-coital snack). When the eggs hatch, the spiderlings move away from the mother's web. Some climb up grass stems and spin long streamers of silk that are caught by the wind and carry the spiderling some distance from home. When they reach the ground they spin webs and start growing. One species of spider lays her eggs in a tunnel and stays with the egg sac. When the spiderlings hatch, they eat their mother before venturing out of the tunnel.

Fascinating animals.
