I live in NYC and there isn't a backyard to get live food. I can't buy live food in the pet store because my parents doesn't like how they look. Is there a live food I could successfully raise and I could find in NYC without going to the pet store?

Put out a container of water with some leaves at the bottom, and you'll almost surely get mosquito larvae. Even an outside window sill will do, as long as it's heavy enough not to blow off if there's a wind.

You can also hatch brine shrimp eggs and feed the fish the shrimp. You can find directions for that here: http://www.aquarticles.com/articles/management/Pegasus_Brine_Shrimp.html

Do you have pepper corys? Those are the ones that require live foods.
The best way to raise your own food is to set up a brine shrimp hatchery. Then you can continually feed live to your small fish. There are kits you can purchase or even make your own. They aren't hard. See the link below for a small do it yourself hatchery.

Snails work quite well, they clean the tank, require no extra care, and if you have a few ones that are too big for the fish to eat, they will give you a nearly endless supply of baby live snails for your fish to have for live food. And if too many make it to adult hood, you can sell them/ break their shell and have a big treat for the fish
