I would wonder why they aren't already married and what the problem in their relationship is that they can't commit to each other legally.

I'm not exactly understanding the question. But, take this into account. Marriage is supposed to be an eternal thing. Not for just a few days like some "boyfriend-girlfriend" relationships turn out. I think that if you love that person and you KNOW that you are ready to take that step, then go for it babe. With whatever you do, may God and love and luck be with you.

Well, it is a personal decision, that both must agree to. If there is joint property each other rights are protected when married. When unmarried, unless there are wills, all assets would go to family, some of which one may have 1/2 interest.

No I wouldn't marry him. There is a reason I been living with him for 10 years, I don't want to marry him. You are wasting your time. Been there done that and married him. I wish I would have noticed why I didn't marry him for 10 years.

I just finished a Sociology class on family and marriage. In the studies listed, it was said that marriage did create a stronger bond and it did have an effect on the level of commitment that the couple felt they had!

Well that would be a personal choice marriage is a commitment, but if you have been together for that long would making it legal really make that much difference. Again I think it is a personal choice the couple would have to make on their own.

After 10 years you should know if you want to marry the person, you might as well make it legal. Living in sin is not what we should do.

If you don't marry that's your choice, but you lose a lot of legal rights if the person who you live with gets very ill or dies. There are a lot of legal issues that stay in limbo.

It shouldnt matter, sometimes that piece of paper can ruin a relationship. Couples start taking each other for granted. I've seen it happen!
