The mongoose is from the weasel family and is the only natural enemy of the cobra. It is a fearsome fighter and when engaging a cobra, defending its territory or having sex it demonstrates outrageous behavior that is often interpreted as 'anger'. The Tasmanian devil is even worse!

I would guess it was during the era when the British Empire tried to control India. It probably amazed the Europeans to see how daring a mongoose is. The expression probably was not meant to indicate anger as much as lunacy because the cobra was so very dangerous and only a "brainless" animal would take one on.

Ever met a mongoose? Mean sunsa bitches. Just kidding, I have never he are that one. I have he are Mad as a Hatter which originated in the time when they used mercury to cure the hats they made which lead to psychotic behavior.
