Because flies are very fast--they flap their tiny wings
approximately 1,000,000 times per second--the odds
that you will be able catch one alive are not too much
better than 2,000,000 to 1. Needless to add, then... it
isn't very likely.
(Even if you should find the fly on a wall, the odds are
enormously stacked against you: those little pests are
able to sense the slightest movement, so before your
fingertips get within inches...)
Need I say more? Okay, I will: the odds of being able
to catch a grasshopper that might've hopped inside
of your pad for a visit are considerably better. But, it
would be best to use a jar.

Yes, occasionally with luck I can snatch a fly, or mosquito out of the air.. I have better luck with mosquitos because they are slower. Grasshoppers are alot easier to catch except for the flying ones.I used to catch them all the time just for fun. My dogs are exceptional fly catchers and they are quite alot more accurate and successful than I. In the summer they catch grasshoppers, my dog loves the flying ones with the black and yellow wings that make the sound when they fly... even he has a hard time catching them as they fly quite fast. House flies seem to be easier to catch than that and my cats and dogs dont let one stay in my house for over 5 minutes before it is captured and devoured.. its awesom I never have flying insects in my house.. my pets are little fly catchers!

Yes it's possible to catch a fly and I have years ago when younger and quicker, never tried to catch a grasshopper flying though.

Yes it is. You need a good eye, anticipation and quick reflexes. My dog is very good at it and any fly that gets near her head is usually caught and eaten.

Yes it is. It's quite easy once you get the hang of it. Heck I can kill them with a flick of a pen or pencil.
