If you want to find a legitimate agent to represent you for commercials, TV & film go to Sag.org. Use the dropdown menu on the right labeled 'resources' and choose 'agent information'. On the next screen, on the left choose 'Find a SAG franchised agent' and follow the directions. You can look up agents all over the US, but there are higher concentrations where the work is (Los Angeles, NY, IL, FL, GA etc.)

Then you can send them your headshot, resume, and a cover letter stating that you are seeking representation and wait to see if they call you in for an interview.

You never pay anything up front. They get 10% after you get a job.

Good luck!

You don't mean casting agents, a casting agent works for the film / TV / stage director and producer and finds talent for a production.

You mean an actors agent.

It's really simple:

(a) If they want money upfront then they are a scam.

(b) If they will take you without an audition then they are not worth being in because they will have hundreds on their books and have no idea how good you are. You might get some extra work.

There are some that will want you to use their in-house photographers for headshots, and charge for it. Well, you can go that route, but they will be more expensive than other photographers *and* you won't own the pictures. To these people say "I'll get my own done", if they object then they are a scam too (or, at least, unprofessional).

Get your own headshots done by a professional and it will probably be cheaper, and you'll own them not the agency.

If the agent passes these tests then you're safe.

Of course if you have to do an audition then you have to have some talent to get through, but then you'll know the agent thinks they can sell your skills, which is how they make their money.

Good luck.

well theres the william morris agency, cirrincione associates, theres a bunch. go to

http://www.agentassociation.com/frontdoor/membership_directory.cfm

to see a list of talent agents. but most of them are going to tell you that you need experience (or sometimes a membership with SAG) and/or a reference from another agency. good luck in your search though!
