I just got a new laptop, and I didn't know if it is ok to keep my laptop plugged in to keep charging while im using it since there is a lightning storm right now. I didn't know if an electrical surge my do something to my laptop if the power goes out or not.

It is OK but not smart. If lightening hits the electrical feed it can create voltage spikes that burn things up including pcs.

If you want to run the risk you may be lucky. As Clint Eastwood used to say in his movies, "Do you feel luck?".

I recommend unplugging during electrical storms.
