I have heard that there is, such as, in California, a spouse if one is working and the other isn't, is responsible BY LAW, to provide medical help, shelter, food, etc. My friends husband, argues with us that this is wrong, does anyone know where we can find this out once and for all? We live in California, and any and all info would be appreciated. Thankx

Dillhole, you're such a commediane,...shouldn't you be doing standup somewhere instead of wasting that 'talent' on yahoo q and a?

Those sound like things that come up more during a divorce proceeding than during the marriage. All I think most states have on the books is what is required to get married not what has to take place during it.
