Probably the same reason that Betsy Ross was not in fact the maker of the US Flag or that Nathan Hale said "I regret that I have only one life to give for my country". Never happened. Our history books are full of lies. Like the Indian invented scalping. Wrong again. The white man did that by paying a bounty for scalps. Not an ear or a nose. A scalp. Scary isn't it. Wonder what else we were lied to about?

because history books are not biographies... they tell about the history of America if it's American history, and the history of the world if it's World History. American History tells about the events that shaped this country, like the Civil War, not a lot of details about the lives of important figures.

at first when I read this question, I thought it said "had smoked pot" and I thought "wow" But you know, history books are not the most reliable things...they simple give a brief overview of facts that the author considered important. I'm sure it's in a history book somewhere for you to have discovered this information.
