Please help me with a writing assignment: I seriously don't know what to write about...

Here is the instruction:
"The Irish playwright George Bernard Shaw once famously noted that, 'All great truths begin as blasphemies.' Can you think of example of such a truth , or such a person who spoke great truths but was derided in his/her own time as a dangerous criminal, an insane lunatic, a hopeless dreamer, etc., but who has been proved right in the long run?"

I can't think of anyone..Please, help...Jesus doesn't count..

Pythagoras from 6th century BC would be your best bet. He is believed to be the first person to propose that the world is shaped like a sphere during the time that they believed the world was flat. But Eratosthenes has already calculated its rough circumference by the 3rd century. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flat_Earth)

Darwin's theory of evolution is still, up to this day, a theory even though it presents a good case. We do not have enough scientific evidence that we did evolve from primates. But we do have evidence that the world is round (spherical) and not flat.

Ok, Galileo Galilei got in trouble because he defended heliocentrism. That is one. Still a bit on the religious side since it was the church he got in trouble with.

Dr. Kohn Likoudis got in trouble for trying to treat ulcers with anti-biotics. Today, we know that can be an acceptable treatment.

I will think and see if I can come up with others.
