I have been a fan of John Carpenter's origianl Halloween for as long as I can remember, it is a classic horror film that can never be touched by any sequel or copycat slasher.

But with all this hype about Rob Zombie's Halloween hitting theaters in late August of 2007 I couldn't help but wonder, is this re-make/reinvention of the film a bad idea?

I personally don't think Zombie (of all directors) has any business coming near this classic, let alone trying to re-make and improve it. His other films (House Of 1000 Corpses & The Devils Rejects) were just typical horror films that were forgettable at best.

Has anyone else noticed he ALWAYS gives some big part in his films to his wife, Sheri Moon Zombie? You know, the blonde woman who can't act. And this film is no exception.

Zombie has been quoted as saying he thinks the character of Dr. Sam Loomis in the original film was used for mostly dramatic affect. Popping in every so often to say something dramatic.

Opinions?

John, you made some excellent points about Halloween, and Rob Zombie too. It bothers me too that he has to give his wife a role in his movies. What, she can't find an acting role on her own? And "Halloween" is one of my fave scary movies. I can't bear to think of yet another horrible sequel, or remake, or whatever. I mean, hasn't this horror franchise suffered enough?

But I do remember liking the "Dawn of the Dead" remake very much, even more so than the original "Dawn". Of course, the original "Dawn" isn't nearly as good as the original "Halloween". Oh well, I guess we should give Mr. Zombie a chance and see what he comes up with. But I have a feeling that I'm going to be sorely disappointed!

As a rule I hate it when Hollywood remakes classic movies and this is the worst idea for a remake so far. The original Halloween is masterpiece and is still one of the scariest films of all time. It doesn't need to be remade. This movie should be left alone.

What makes it worse, is that I have heard that this remake includes a back story about Michael Myers and how and why he became evil. Part of the reason the original is so effective is because there is no explanation of why he does what he does. There is no clear motive for why he kills people and that makes him all the more frightening.

Also another thing that made the original Halloween so great was because of how subtle it was. There was almost no blood or gore and the film makers used the camera angles and the lighting very effectively. There was also plenty of tension leading up to the killings. If there is one thing I know about Rob Zombie movies, it is that subtle would be the last word you could use to describe them. They are gory and violent and rely on shock value more than actual genuine scares.

Remaking Halloween isn't just a stupid idea it is one of the worst ideas in the history of film.

It's funny, I want to see the movie only because I am a horror movie junkie, but I think Rob Zombie should really stick to what people like him best as... I didn't care for his other films at all. I thought they were kind of stupid. And the ONLY reason I want to see the new "Halloween" is to see how badly it's butchered. I'm sure he has many unique ideas and I'm also sure he thinks taht by doing a classic, he will get directing skills. But I for one, don't really care for him as a director. And I agree with the fact that his wife can't act. Pretty chick, but no actress.

I do however think it would be AWESOME if John Carpenter himself directed a remake of "Halloween". Imagine the same story line and all but with the proper funds and more modern? I like the idea of that much better then watching Zombie murder a classic.

John Carpenter's movie is by far a classic that doesn't need to be redone; very few if ever do need a face-lift.

What made "Halloween" a great movie was great camera work (ever-closing in camera shots) and Jamie Lee Curtis' handling of the material. None of that benefits from being bastardized by "modern" re-working. If you're going to remake a film, at least let it be one that will benefit from recent technological improvments; films with a need for special effects. Even then the movie must still be done well; actng and directing and the whole deal.

Now, that being said, it's not like the old version of the movie is going away. Honestly, I think it would be at least intriguing to see Rob Zombie's take on the classic. *shrug* Why not? It's certainly not the sort of movie I'd expect him to tackle by far. That alone peaks my curiosity. I'll give it a try and will try to remain nuetral on my opinion until I actually SEE the movie.

...And yeah, Zombie's consistent plug of his wife in his films is getting old fast. It's shameless.

I'm really tired of re-makes...especially when it is a classic horror movie. It's bad enough that Craven,Carpenter and others can't think of anything original anymore...so they re-make their own movies...NOW they are re-making Halloween of all movies.Rob might be a horror movie lover...but stick with watching them...not re-making them.
