I saw Deep Purple in May, they were quite loud, but I think Rush on their R30 tour may have been louder. My ears were still ringing the next day, they didn't with Deep Purple

Many moons ago, long before Health & Safety had even been thought of, some of the metal bands had a sort of 'competition' between themselves to see who was loudest. I remember seeing bands like Motorhead, Iron Maiden & Whitesnake at the Glasgow Apollo & being totally deaf for a few hours afterwards! Communication with mates was impossible, even shouting hard right into someone's ear was met with a 'what' shrug!
I saw Deep Purple a couple of years ago at the Armadillo & my hi-fi goes louder!!!

Mine was Metallica in 1998. It was at an outdoor pavilion and I was on the lawn. But a friend had a spare pass and took me down to the 10th row, and I had to go back to the lawn because it was so loud. It was the best concert I've ever been to but my ears rang for days afterwards. The second loudest was AC/DC in 2000, they were loud as hell to.

Small club, 500 people capacity, they played with a full brass section. I had headaches & impaired hearing for at least 2-3 days after the show.....and I was standing 15-20 feet away from the nearest speakers.

and MOTORHEAD same location months later=95% deaf in both ears for 3days after the concert,i actually felt my ribs vibrate and a slight punch in the stomach area, purely from the speaker bass and sheer loudness of it!lol

I was not there, but the loudest on dvd was actually KISS' last appearance in make up at Rio De Janero in the 1980's, that place exploded with noise when the boys hit the stage!

Slayer at the Glasgow Barrowlands! I was at the guard rail in front of the stage just next to the PA at the left hand side of the stage. When slayer started my legs gave way! Luckily the mosh pit behind me had me pinned against the rail so i didnt fall over!

I was once convinced to see The Wildhearts play a home town gig in Newcastle. After about 40 mins my head felt like it was filled with cotton wool, my ears stung like hell and I was getting white spots appear in front of my eyes.
I wouldn't have minded but they truly were awful.
All pain. No gain.

They were a 70's band but of all the concerts I've been to, believe it or not, Grand Funk Railroad blew my eardrums out...thankfully my friend Tim brought earplugs with!! I've seen the Metal bands with stacks of Marshall amps but not as loud as this gig!! This was a reunion gig in 1997!
