I am doing a Jelly Baby experiment. I have a couple questions.

What makes a Jelly Baby combust and scream in the Screaming Jelly Babies experiment?

Where can I buy Screaming Jelly Babies (either cheap online or at a store)?

If you can help me with any of these questions, please do. Thank you :)

This is a common chemistry experiment performed in schools in the U.K.

The experiment shows the amount of energy there is in a "jelly baby". Potassium chlorate is a very strong oxidizing agent that oxidizes the sugar in the jelly baby all at once. When the experiment is performed, the jelly baby bursts into flames and makes a screaming sound. The smell of candy floss is also given off.

Jelly babies are a type of soft confectionery that look like little babies in a variety of colors. They are very popular in the United Kingdom. There are currently several companies that make jelly babies, most predominantly Trebor Bassett (famous for their liquorice allsorts) and also Rowntree (Nestlé).

Can I have some of what you're on?

But seriously, add potassium chlorate solution (a strong oxidiser), and the sugar in a jelly baby is rapidly oxidised, 'rapidly' meaning with flames and a screaming noise. There's nothing special about the jelly babies other than they're full of sugar - its just a lot more fun doing the demonstration with a jelly baby.
