Ok...I went to the doctor today and he said that my cervix was really soft and the baby's head was laying against it. But he also said that I had dialted a finger-tip. Im not quite sure how much that is...maybe 1 cm? I had cervical cancer before and had the LEEP procedure done, so Im really worried about my cervix holding up. Will I go the full 40 weeks?

I am 38 weeks pregnant and almost 4 centimeters dilated, 75 % effaced and having contractions for 2 days straight, but not bad enough for me to not sleep through...Doc said it could still be 3 weeks:( But...When I was 35 weeks I was 50% effaced and 1.5 centimeters dilated. Being dilated and soft is just your body's natural way of getting ready for labor, it does not mean you will go early. I asked the doctor and he said "many women walk around for 4-5 weeks dilated..it is very normal..Its also normal for a women not to dilate at all until the day she goes into labor..we are all different, and there is no tell tail sign you are laboring unless your water breaks, or you are having painful contractions close together...Good Luck..Both of us are likely to be holding our babies 6 weeks from now:)

Well I recently learned that a woman can go several weeks with her cervix dialated for up to 4 centemeters with no problems. The good thing about it is that when you do go into labor a lot of the work is already done. Unless your doctor tells you that this is a problem and recomends bed rest all should be well. The good thing is that your baby is almost labled full term so if you do happen to go into labor soon your baby is most likely to be fine. Congrats and good luck!!!!

You don't have to go the full 40. Full term (at the hospitals I've worked at) is considered at 37 weeks. That's when the baby's lungs are mature (lungs are the last thing to develop completely).

You can walk around for weeks dilated even to 3-4 cm, so don't worry. If your doctor was concerned, they would have put you on bedrest.

Hey...your baby is in head down position! That's something to be happy about. Your little one isn't breech!

I was dialated 1-3 cm for weeks!! If you dr saw you at the visit, you are probably okay. Does your dr know about the LEEP procedure? Be sure and share that- You'll probably have to wait for your bundle of joy for a few more weeks! Get all the sleep you can!!

I have been a fingertip dialated since about 31 weeks and I'm now 37 weeks. Guess what ? No baby yet or any sign that she'll be coming soon. You can walk around for weeks dialated a few centimeters. good luck!

honey if you can hang on just a few more weeks, which it sounds like you will, then you won't have any problems, I had both my children at 37 weeks and they are considered full term. You could stay one cm. for a while, just relax and don't stress, nature will take its course and you and the baby will be fine

you probably will not go the full 40 weeks, but there is no need to. babies are considered full term at 36 weeks.

A fingertip is barely 1cm. You can be a fingertip your whole pregnancy, so it doesn't mean anything.

If your doctor is not worried, you should not be either.
