Well I grew up next door to a now very famous NHLer and yes he played Team Canada too! They were four brothers and all the boys in the neighbourhood just always seemed to gather to play in our mutual driveway that we shared with our neighbours. There wasn't a day our driveway (spilling over onto the street) wasn't filled with boys playing hockey.
My favourite memory is that before my dad wised up and put metal mesh over all the basement windows...they would often get smashed by a ball or puck...so out would come running my (Italian) grandma with her wooden spoon waving in the air and chase everyone off. If you knew how common this scene was would you would laugh...because there were kids who would purposely entice her just to see her chase them with a spoon, broom, and often wooden bat...it was comical. My grandma didn't speak Engish so often she went by body language and she would just know when they were making fun of her and that would just get her going even more!
Mr. S. next door however always very kind and made sure any damages were paid for by the responsible party...I would just sit on my porch and watch all the action. I couldn't play of course...there weren't many girls on our street and so it wasn't much fun being a girl and being told hockey was not for girls that's for sure!
Now I watch my own boys play and those will one day be fond memories too.

Well, where do I start!?! I'm born and raised in Detroit so of Course the Red Wings! But, there is more to it then just that. I've played hockey my whole life, and in the summer when I was a kid, would participate in the Jr Wings hockey Camp with Red Wing players making appearances and skating with us little 7 and 8 yr olds. I thought that was awesome and always looked up to them for that. Plus we have a Bar here in Detroit Called the Hockey Town Cafe that is around the Corner from Joe Louis Arena. The History and Heritage with the Team has a lot to do with why the Wings are my Favorite Team. I'm also a Toronto Maple Leafs fan and a Buffalo Sabres Fan.

Well, I play on a newly put together all girls team. I live in a city that has about 20 thousand people and only about less then 100 girls play hockey. Probably around 40 now that we have had a year of playing.
On my bantam team, we had some 11 year old, 12 year olds and some 13 year olds. Only one of them being a goalie and five of them actually played hockey before. The rest were new to it.
We went into a girls toury, just doing it for fun. But we ended up having two overtime games and wining the second place meddle after a shootout. I have to say, me I have been playing hockey for as long as I could remember, and I was pretty surprised at how good girls can be when they put their minds into it.

There are two, when I was in Grade 6, in early 2004 (I have my own backyard rink every year) I started it off as just a little thing where me and my friends have a game of hog/shoot around. Nothing else. But it turned out to be really great, because tons of people were home, which rarely ever happens to me where all of my friends are home at one time. It was -35 outside and we played for 6 hours, I think the total number of people there was 14. It was one of those things where you had to be there, it was really great from start to finish.
Then we played road hockey, this time intended for alot of people in November. It was a game that 17 people showed up too. We had so much fun it went an hour longer than scheduled. It was 3 hours of a great road hockey tournament and two more hours of a great movie (we watched Forrest Gump) and best of all, I did the game for charity. I made a video of the game and sent it to one.org but they didn't accept it. It was still a great party! Here a link to the video on YouTube:

Teaching my 3 year old how to play road hockey with the neighbourhood team. Between coming home from work and dinner each of the kids in the neighbourhood would come out to play with me, my daughter and my neighbours husband. It was where she began to learn about teamwork, passing and being a good sport.
She's 9 now and one of her favourite things is watching and discussing hockey games during the season. Go Canucks Go!

PAUL HENDERSON
The Goal of the Century
Paul Henderson, a member of the Canadian Sports Hall of Fame, became a Canadian sports legend on September 28, 1972. His goal, with 34 seconds remaining in the final game, lifted Canada to victory in the "Series of the Century", against the Soviet Union. Incredibly, Paul Henderson scored the winning goal in each of the last three games of this historic first series between the two superpowers of hockey.
That goal is the reason why every little kid right now wants to be in the nhl.

My favourite memory? Well one time I was playing on a midget hockey team. Our team won the league championship and we got an invitation to the national finals in Regina. On the bus ride the guys on my team were just unbelievable. We were listening to our Walkmans and talking non stop hockey. When we got to the hotel the guys were crazy-u know being away and having freedom from their parents.
The game was even better. We were down 5-0 into the second and came back to tie the game. It went to OT then the a shootout. Everybody missed and my best pal who was the worst player on the team scored. He worked so hard and never complained about his ice team. So nice to see him get the goal. On the way back everyone was just so high spirited. These hockey childhood memories are ones to treasure as they can not be experienced again!

When it was my eleventh birthday my mom took me to see my first hockey game at the Gardens, the Leafs won, after the game she took me where the players come out and I got almost all of their autographs, a moment I will treasure for ever. I have 7 brothers who all play hockey, great memories. I also have an amazing hockey card collection.

Growing up in Canada, road hockey was what everyone did. We played every season of every year for as long as we all went to school.
My favourite memory was being goalie. I was 5 years younger than most of the boys in the neighbourhood, and about two feet shorter than them. I recall seeing these giants running at me and slamming me with a slapshot that would make a grown man cry like a school girl....but, I took it and played on....and of course, I got stuck moving the net everytime a car would come up the road. Great times....great memories...thinking about it still makes me smile (especially with the game playing on the tv tonight in the background).
