I don't think that is just egg bound if she is losing scales. She may well be holding many eggs, but I have never seen a female lose scales from being egg bound. Look closely and see if she has scales standing out from her body. If so, then you are dealing with a case of dropsy. Dropsy is somewhat treatable, but the odds of treating it when it's that advanced are quite slim. The treatment of choice is Furanace, but Maracyn TC can also be used.

With all bettas its a good idea to skip a feeding once a week as too much food for them can lead to constipation which can kill them. Try not feeding her for a day to see if it goes down, you can also feed her a deshelled, blanched pea to help with constipation after fasting. You might still want to watch for dropsey but I doubt it, bloating in bettas from overfeeding is much more common. There could also be eggs if she's displaying horizontal banding, in which case if there is no male for her to breed with and fertilize the eggs they will just be reabsorbed.

She's either egg bound-most likely if she was around a male, or it's dropsy. If it's dropsy, and she's pineconing, it's most likely too late. If she's egg bound, I had a good article on tips for releiving it, can't find it. I think it said something about wearing some gloves, or use a damp paper towel and hold her. Wet a Q Tip, and "massage" gently the area around the egg tube. That's supposed to help her release the eggs. Try doing a search first though to make sure I have that accurate. Think I saw it on this site, but can't find it at the moment:

Your betta could have a condition called "dropsy." Google dropsy and that will give you all the information. I think this might be it, unless your betta was exposed to a male betta.
Good luck.

She might just be ready to breed. I have a male and female, and my female just started getting really fat. I put them together and they started breeding.
