After partaking in much debate about this poor coutry, I was really saddened by their plight..and want to help them in their sad state.. in fact i am extending my hand to others to also help... help them find a name and an identiy.... You see after living undr the communist propaganda regime for several decades.. they have come to truely believe they are Macedonian.. so I want to assist them in creating a new name to help them when the time comes for them to change it officially.. Here are some of my suggestions.. (Skopjeslavia, Vardar country, F.F.R.O.M., and my favourite Fyromia... all excellent in my opinion.. but my question is do you have any alternate names to help the poor culturless Slavs in that forsaken coutry?

a million. Virginia [i'm a July toddler] 2. Anna[No lipstick, whats up something cool, for the female I have been given #7 then #13, that's my birthday, 13 July :)] 3. Frank [different - I wanna flow to Sweden] 4. Harold [Multi animals-In my new living house we've a cat, a dogs, and a pair of birds] Virginia and Anna i'm no longer prepared on, however the nickname Ginny is stunning. Frank is oddly good-looking so i like it, and Harold isn't something i could use, even though it has a nerdy, previous form attraction i'm able to't clarify.

An answer to javolimfudbal:

A country is free to choose to be called whatever it likes. However that name has to be unique and not collapse with an existing historical name. For example a newborn country cannot be named France because that would be ambiguous.

The name Macedonia was used by the Greek city state of Macedonia about 3000 years before the creation of this newborn country. Although greece is not made up of city states any more, it is made up of provinces. And there is still a province called Macedonia in Greece. Therefore naming a newborn country with that name is ambiguous to say the least. Skopje tried to solve this by naming itself as FYROM which stands as Former Yugoslav Republic Of Macedonia. Although FYROM is a unique name and therefore valid, there is still a confusion which comes after many people instead of writing FYROM write FYR Macedonia or even worse just Macedonia. This clearly causes confusion!! A new name needs to be found and this time the international community should be more strict and not allow this country to use something that can be misinterpreted.

(E.g. choosing FYROF= former yugoslav republic of France should not be allowed because it can be used as FYR France or worse France for short from many. Then people would go to Skopje and look for eifel tower only to find that they were mistaken!)

While I may agree with the first part of your statement, I strongly oppose your attitude when referring to these people as 'culture-less Slavs'. Whatever possessed you to say that? First of all, you're insulting the whole group of people, many Slavic nations, and the ones in question are actually denying they are Slavs! They want to be known as Venets or some similar nonsense!
You're being offensive to Serbs, your Orthodox brothers, remember them?

Forgive me for saying so, but like those whom you accuse, you have forgotten what this forum is about. It is called Answers, division Travel, subdivision Greece. It is destined to people who need info on tourism in Greece. It is not a forum about international relations and politics in the Balkans, where neighbouring countries can fight. Quite frankly, although I have been contributing to this site for a long time, in order to help foreigners better appreciate and visit Greece's cultural heritage, this direction of the forum is making me stop visiting it. And it will soon stop being of any interest to foreigners who are really interested to know about travelling to Greece, so the whole purpose of the section will be spoiled. Perhaps those from other countries (FYROM, Turkey, etc) don't mind that, because they don't care about showing the Greek heritage to the world, but at least the Greeks should not follow them.

Former Siren, now Better thing to do or whatever you're called, you are the one who has contributed most into making this site a place for controversy over the name of Skopje, so you are the last who can interfere to say if I am right or wrong.

I know how you Greeks feel about Macedonia, but please do not make fun or insult any other nations/cultures, even if they are Slavic (Serbian) which I am not so fond of.
Let us all realize we are just human beings.

Again "better things to do" previously named Siren...I'm sick of watching your nick in the greek section. You got in just to say that pinatsi was right?Well thanks! The "idiots" word characterizes you that you are so obsessed with the greek section (travel)! This question is indeed out of the travel section but we didn't wait you to tell us about it and get so worried about the tourism of Greece....

Carry on like this if you like..but only one who loses out is your real nation GREECE cos outsiders think you look like idiots and as Spintatsi says you are losing opportunity to tell foreigners about your country and it's culture and tourism etc.
