Have you tried AVAST antivirus? I haven't found one it can't get rid of yet.

If you can't, the antivirus program should tell you which file(s) is infected, and you may be able to just delete that file.

Run both of these on-line scans. Both are free and excellent at detecting and removing malware free of charge. There is no need to un-install your current protections before using these.
1. Scan for virus, worms, dialers, etc. and remove (free online scan, no downloaded program) with BitDefender's Online Scanner
http://www.bitdefender.com/
2. Scan for trojans, adware, and spyware and remove (free online scan, no downloaded program) with Ewido Online Scanner ( now known as AVG Anti-Spyware). This is NOT the same as AVG Anti-Virus.
http://www.ewido.net/en/
These scans will take quite a bit of time. The time is necessary to clean-up an infected computer.

2418 viruses is an awful lot, something is terribly wrong with your computer security set-up or your usage habits. Most people go YEARS without a single virus.
Is your Windows 100% fully updated and patched with all critical and security updates from Windows Update (go to tools > Windows Update)?
Do you use a properly configured firewall that you never disable for even a minute for any reason?
Do you NOT use any P2P file-sharing such as Limewire?
Good luck.

There probably is a group of viruses working together on your machine. Although not common it is sometimes a technique used. The partner program(s) are probably using windows technology to stay invisible and replenish the programs you try to delete. Try using rootkit revealer to search for a program that doesn't seem to fit. However be careful, rootkit revealer will reveal helpful programs too that hide to protect themselves like your virus protection and other windows critical processes.

If your system has 2417 viruses then it's not probably worth using . Better take a backup of your data and format your disk and try reinstalling all software and do make it a point to install a good antivirus program. Be careful while backing up and formatting your disk. Get someone's help.

The number one rated Kaspersky Anti Virus will give you a free 30 day trial. Download it and clean up your computer. If you continue to have virus problems, you may have to do a complete re-install. If/when you do, also get yourself a good Firewall.

Try getting avast (http://www.avast.com). This is a free utility that can run a virus scanner while you reboot. Since Window's isn't loaded, you will be able to delete the viruses.

do what Microsoft recommends:
reformat the harddrive & reinstall Windows. Even THEY can't clean all the gunk out of their operating system.
you might consider a Mac or removing windows & installing Linux (Ubuntu seems to be the popular choice for noobies)
