Is the Chinese calendar prediction accurate? It has a 50/50 chance of being right -- just like any other method, including guessing, which is, at bottom, what the calendar is doing. I promise you that not every woman who is 23 years old when she conceives, with the ovulation/conception date occuring in January, is going to have a boy.

If such things were accurate we wouldn't be so concerned about what external sex organs we're going to see by ultrasound -- hell, the insurance companies would insist on the money saving method of consulting calendars (or heartrates...or hanging a thread over a belly...etc.) This isn't meant to in any way knock you for wanting to believe in it -- but any "method" has a 50/50 chance of being right. And if there were three sexes, any method would have a 1/3 chance of being right.

The only completely foolproof method is by invasive testing such as an amnio or a CVS. Second to that: ultrasounds. Occasionally they are wrong but most of the time they are right; the biggest "challenge" is finding the baby to be in a cooperative mood during the ultrasound, so s/he "shows" you what needs to be seen!

I'm surprised you haven't had an ultrasound at 23 weeks -- regardless of the open "sex of the baby" question you should speak with your doctor about it, as most OBs (in the US, anyway) do at least one scan, at about 20 weeks, called a Level II Ultrasound or a Major Anatomy Scan to check on the development of the baby's organs, flow through the umbilical cord, etc. etc. That's when they'll check the sex of the baby, too.

Best of luck.

(Incidentally, it's impossible to know for sure whether you ovulated in December or in January. Depends how long your cycle is and on what day during your cycle you usually ovulate -- not all women have 28 day cycles with an ovulation date on day 14 (in fact, most women don't fit that textbook example). That said, unless you have a short cycle or ovulate early in your cycle as a rule, you probably ovulated in January.)

i love that chinese birth predictor! I have 2 kids and it was right on! Everyone that i checked was right and then my sister in law busted my bubble and told me she shoulda been a boy and my husband shoulda been a girl! It is a fun little thing but nothing can be right all the time. I know you will be happy with whatever you have, good luck with the boy thing! At 20 weeks they can see the sex of the baby on the ultra sound so just have one of those.

I have found that they are accurate. When they say 93% accurate they are right! also if you are carrying high it may be a girl (like me) or if you are carrying low it may be a boy. Also if the babies heartbeat is 150 or higher it is probably a girl and if it is 140 or lower is probably a boy. These are just little things that have worked for everyone in my family throughout the years and they have always been 100% for us. Good luck!

Sorry but they are not accurate... they said I was having a boy and this baby is a girl (I had to get an amnio for other reasons and found out it is definitely a girl) The charts are fun, but don't decorate your nursery based on their predictions!

Go get an ultrasound. You can have a doctor do a genetic test to determine the sex. That is the only FOOL proof way.

It did not work for my sister. It said she was going to have a boy, and she is actually having a girl.

They are about 50% accurate, which means it's just made-up. It was wrong for me and my best friend.
