I would like to upgrade my motherboard on an old Intel 2.4mhz socket 478 type and I have a gig of 184 pin DDR 400 PC3200 ram that I would like to use, but the motherboard I am looking at supports DDR333 standard. Can I use my faster ram in this motherboard? I am not sure.

You should be able to, the new RAM will just run at a slower speed to match whats onboard.
