Colorado hands down. They have a lot of assistance and in addition, they have better programs and more state funding than any other state in the US.

While fighting for my disabled brother I have been told on many occasions by the people in various organizations and governmental departments that if I wanted good help, I needed to move to Colorado.

I have fought for years to secure assistance for my brother to no avail. The SSI is a federal program and mostly the same wherever you go. However, getting to a state that has additional help is the key. Apparently, Colorado has their programs in order.

You would need to contact the Department of Health and Human Services and other welfare offices. There are programs such as Medicaid (state health insurance), Food Stamps, electric assistance, fuel assistance, etc. Many of these programs are different from state to state. I can tell you more about what is available here in New Hampshire.

If you mother is younger than 65 years old and has been on Social Security for more than 2 years, she should be eligible for Medicare. If she is 65 or older, she should get this immediately.
The Council on Aging should be able to help determine what Medicare program would work best for her. Medicare is a Federal program.

I live in Washington, and my best friend has Cerebral Palsy and was on SSI. She got good medical care. There are a lot of doctors that take medicade, SSI, etc. BTW...That's Washington state, Not D.C.

I'm confused. SSI is a federal plan, the medicaid card is a state plan. It seems it would be illegal for one state to offer better health care than another. I have had NO problems and I had breast cancer. Plus medication.

It is getting harder to find dr's that will accept either one as they do not pay enough.
