In the 'olden daze' this would definitely have been a concern. But with the internet, there would be no reason to lose touch unless someone refused to keep the lines of communication open.
You WILL be making a ton of new friends when you go away to school. Don't let that part worry you. Life is a set of stages and you are about to enter a new one. Work hard and enjoy!! God bless!

While you'll probably grow apart from your friends a little bit because you are going to different schoola and are going to have different experiences here are a few ways to keep in touch with them.
1. instant messaging- this works really well because you can talk to them on a micraphone or you can message them at any time and leave them offline messages if they aren't online.
2. Through myspace or zanga or any of those websites because its really easy to keep up with what everybody's doing.
3. Plan getting together once a month or so and hang out. This can be kinda hard to do with everybody's schedules being different but if you can work it out its really worth it.

Phone calls, letters, email. You will make new friends at the new school. You will find the longer you are out of school the less you will be in contact with old school friends. Although you may keep a few for life, that happens sometimes.

myspace is great, facebook is great, it's now not just for college students. Email (obviously). make the effort! if you want to stay in touch with people call them! It's so easy to not stay personal with people because of technology today (texting, emails, Im's) nothing is ever in person or in real time. So if you want to stay in touch make the effort!!

Last year I signed up for myspace. It is free and you can find just about anyone on there. I love it since I live so far away from everyone.
