I am caucasian and have found myself in situations with people who make racist remarks without even knowing that they are racist! For instance, my one friend ALWAYS says "don't JAP out"--in other words, don't break our plans...whenever I tell her that she is being a racist she just rolls her eyes. I don't care though, I still say it everytime she says it because as long as she is going to think it's okay, I'm going to let her know it is ridiculous, that's what friends do.
On the same note, I have found myself in situations like at a bar...where someone I do not even know will feel it is okay to come up and make a racist remark out of nowhere. Like when the Kobe Bryant stuff was going on--where he was in that trial over the Jewish girl...this man was talking out of turn and I didn't even know him...saying things randomly like "well I'll bet SHE'S glad she's getting this payday....figures a JEW!" I just turned, looked at him, and flatly said "her mother is an attorney and her father is a doctor, I don't think that money is her motivation here."--and he shut his racist mouth.
Most of the time, all racists want or need is an outlet or someone to validate them. If they don't feel validated, it usually shuts them down. Sooner or later people will figure out that the only way to get along in life is for everyone to GET ALONG.
:D

Racism is alive at every turn. It's so sad that after thousands of years on this planet, drinking the same water, breathing the same air we can't see that we are the same package despite what's on our wrapper. We are going to continue to destroy each other at a alarming rate unless we learn to embrace all cultures, races and genders...It's 2007 people we need to stop racism. It's only going to destroy our society..
