it is getting ridiculas! I don't even watch fox any more they are the worst... Ok I know TV is based on ratings but come on give a show at least 4 weeks to pick up a audience. Sometimes people are busy or we just forget something is on for 1 week.
Now if the show has had time to build a audience and still fails, then it is tie to drop the ax.

Networks make money through merchandising commercial time for the duration of television courses. while a show has intense rankings, they are able to sell merchandising time at a extra physically powerful cost. companies won't opt to pay as a lot to sell in the event that they comprehend there are not many human beings watching. as a result, if a show isn't doing properly in the rankings, that probable additionally means it extremely isn't any longer bringing in sufficient merchandising money, and the community might cancel it and placed some thing else in its place.

I hate that. Drive got 5.6 million viewers and it still got canceled. It was only on its fourth episode and its gone. Fox should have least finished the season or something. Same with Complete Savages and Life as We Know It. If the show is not good enough, it's down the drain.

I assume Aubie is joking. His definition of FREE is having to sit through increasingly inane commercials most of which I'll never use. That kind of philosophy makes people suckers for things like free Florida vacations or Free Cruises. Believe me, we ARE paying a price for free TV!
I agree that shows coming and going have a lot to do with ratings. But at the same time it seems to me that the networks seem to favor certain styles of shows more than others. I have no illusions about the networks ambitions to improve the human state through careful programming.

I could not disagree with you more. These networks are giving us entertainment for FREE. Anybody with a TV and an antennae can watch network programming for no fee whatsoever. They are able to provide us with this wonderful service by selling ads. Those advertisers make money by running commercials during programs that people watch. If not enough people watch a certain show, then the advertisers are not willing to spend for airtime, and the network loses the money it costs to make and produce that show.
I hate it as much as anyone when a show I enjoy is canceled due to low ratings, but unfortunately it's part of the business and something we have to learn to accept.

It is. Jericho had 8 MILLION viewers and apparently that isn't good enough for CBS to keep the show on the air, not even just to give us some closure.
They all need to stop doing hiatus's because it is hurting their shows and their networks.

To pushpanj: It's "abrupt"
Networks are not concerned about being considerate. They're counting on high ratings to make more money. It's all about money.
