First of all--AWESOME FINALE!!!
Now, down to business. Walt, like Jack's father and Kate's horse, was just another one of the the island's manifestations.
The producer's mixed it up this time; as opposed to getting an insight into Jack's past, we got a glimpse at his future. The story being told: Jack's wanting to commit suicide, saving the women, being addicted to Oxycontin, was all a result of not listening to Ben (who, in a bizarre turn of events could quite possibly BE one of 'the good guys' and answering the call from the satellite phone.
Through these images, we learn that he and Kate do not end up together. In fact, Kate seems angry at Jack for the things that he has done (when Jack calls her he tells her not to hang up). We also learn that Jack has gone somewhat insane, and feels that they were meant to stay on the island. My guess is something goes awry in their attempt to get off the island--(the show just signed on to continue until 2010, so they can't get off yet, can they??)
Where we, somehow, believed that Naomi and Penny were tied in some way, all that was discredited by the incoming sgnal from Penny; when Charlie answered it after disarming the signal blocker, Penny had no idea where they were or what he was talking about.
I hope this helps; there is still so much information and so many many questions that we received last night, but I hope this helped! If you are still confused, you can re-watch the episode at abc.go.com--ABC has the all the episodes up.
Happy LOST-ing!

Walt seems to be seriously connected to the island. As far as Kate and Jack, remember, Desmond has flash forwards too, and they can be changed as we've seen. As far as the ending, it looks like the original Dharma group may be on their way back to the island.

Since they never actually showed anything more than the man on the walkie-talkie saying that he could get a fix on their position, we don't really know that they got off the island. It could be that the future flashes were just a possible scenario. Can't imagine that there would be much of a show left if they actually got off the island.

The island manifested itself into Walt.
No they will not as you saw in the flash forward.
The ending just showed that future Jack wants to go to the island.
I loved the FINALE.
