That depends on a number of things. But if it's for a short period of time yes. Or if it's a newborn. But the main thing is light and space it needs to have both so I wouldn't suggest you doing it.

Tortoises kept inside can be kept in many things, based on age. Smaller tortoises can be easily kept in very large plastic tubs, like Rubbermade Christmas Tree Storage Tubs.

Medium tortoises can be kept in 'tortoise tables'- simple wooden boxes on legs- imagine a bookcase on its back over a couple sawhorses.

Bigger tortoises kept indoors really need basically a converted room, or a big pen in a nice warm room.

Only keep a tortoise in a box during its hybernation. A tortoise needs room to move about freely when not hybernating. They also like roaming around inside the house. Make sure you feed it a well balanced diet. They tend to be partial to the color red. Mine loves red rose petals, watermellon, red cabbage. No tomatoes. Carrots need to be shredded. Lots of leafy greens. Mine loves grapes. Be sure its roaming area is safe. Mine meets me every morning for breakfast. Also make sure it has a shallow dish of water.
