What has Christ ever done to deserve such hatred. He preached forgiveness, love, kindness, respect for parents, do not murder, do not abuse your body nor anyone elses, ect...
What is so harmful about this? Absolutely nothing. what has happened is that people are People focused, instead of looking to Christ, they look at the people. As people we are all faulty and make mistakes, no person is perfect. Then the whole accountability thing...people do not want to be told what they should and should not be doing whether it's from God and especially not another person. But even Christ himself spoke of this persecution of himself and his followers.
Matthew 10:16
[ Persecutions Are Coming ] “Behold, I send you out as sheep in the midst of wolves. Therefore be wise as serpents and harmless as doves.
Matthew 10:15-17

I don't think the problem is with Christ, but with some messed up Christians. Ghandi said that "Oh, I don't reject your Christ. I love your Christ. It's just that so many of you Christians are so unlike your Christ."

Sure, a sinful world will despise Christ, but many Christians do their part so that even those that would love to come to know Christ turn away from salvation. It's no excuse when it comes to judgement of the individual, but it's a shame it happens.

"If the previous paragraphs [of 'A Religion For A New Age'] prove anything, it is that the Bible is not merely another book, an outmoded and archaic book, or even an extremely influential book; it has been and remains an incredibly dangerous book. It and the various Christian churches which are parasitic upon it have been directly responsible for most of the wars, persecutions and outrages which humankind has perpetrated upon itself over the past two thousand years."
- John J. Dunphy

"Men never do evil so completely and cheerfully as when they do it from religious conviction." - Blaine Pascal

I don't think Christ is the one people have the problem with.

There are very good Christians and then there are judgmental mean nasty ones. I think that is where most of the problem is for others.

"And when he had made a scourge of small cords, he drove them all out of the temple, and the sheep, and the oxen; and poured out the changers' money, and overthrew the tables"

"Thou shalt make no covenant with them, nor with their gods.
They shall not dwell in thy land, lest they make thee sin against me: for if thou serve their gods, it will surely be a snare unto thee."

"He who sacrificeth unto any god, save unto the Lord only, he shall be utterly destroyed."

Yet you ask:

"What has Christ ever done to deserve such hatred. He preached forgiveness, love, kindness, respect for parents, do not murder, do not abuse your body nor anyone elses, etc... What is so harmful about this?"

I never met jesus so I don't know if he was bad but I can tell you that people who like to preach his so-called word drive me nuts and the fact that you can't be gay cause he said so. Now I am not gay but its just not right. Thats what is bad about christianity, its very closeminded!
