Check in CMOS that all usb ports are enabled. If so, it could drivers or a bad connection on the front ports.
Cheers :-)

First you have to find if the USB port on the front is alive. Plug something else into it. If its ok then there is no reason it shouldn't recognize the drive. Sometimes the USB ports are not hooked up - especially on used or cheap computers.

Hi. Many cases that have front USB ports have separate cables running to pins on the motherboard. These are easy to get dislodged. Also some USB 1.1 ports may not read a USB 2.0 device.

probably something unplugged between the port you see and the connection on the motherboard.
If you're comfortable opening the computer - go for it. see if you can find a manual for the motherboard first. I can figure out where the wires are supposed to plug in by looking at the pins and labels of other USB ports attached to the motherboard, but I can't remember enough to tell you now.

Sounds like your front panel connection is either disconnected from the motherboard or plugged into the motherboard incorrectly. If you have your motherboard manual you can look in there and see. If you have a front USB connector on there then it will have 2 rows of pins 1 row will have 5 pins the other will have 4 pins. Like this:
Side A ***** Side B
****
The VCC+ will be on side A ending with ground- on side B. Make sure it's connected properly. Good Luck HTH.

actually, when i plug my usb into my mac keyboard it told me the usb port was not big enough to handle the flash drive. unless you really need to plug it in the front i would plug it in the back of the pc where the usb may be able to handle it.

You need to make sure your front side USB ports are actually connected to the motherboard. You also need to make sure your motherboard BIOS has set up all the USB ports correctly.

First thing to try is to reboot.
Remove the USB drive, reboot, one you're back up, reconnect the drive.
If the front USB ports never work, then they are probably not connected.

The cables of the front USB adapter is not connected to the mother board, open the motherboard chasis and see that there is some small colored cables that are not connected to anything, you should follow the motherboard manual to see where to connect what.
Hope it helps
