The war, the 19th amendment was ratified, the Titanic sunk, the Girl Scouts of America were formed, the Erector Set, Tinker Toys and the Ouija Board were created, ballroom dancing, ragtime, blues, jazz and much more.

This might not count as a 'good' event but - mainly to correct sarge - WW1 lasted from 4th August 1914 - 11th November 1918. USA became involved early in 1917.

The US invaded Mexico, Haiti and the Dominican Republic in those glorious days, the nineteen-tens.

The obvious big event in history would be World War I (1911-1917, U.S. got involved in 1913).
