That's my hometown. There are an array of things to do on the Island. But I would strongly advise you not to get in the water! LOL. They have a lot of excellent restaurants like Willie G's and the Rain forest cafe. If you like shopping there are a lot of neat shops on the Seawall and the Strand.

Moody Gardens and the newly built Schlitterbahn are also options. Moody Gardens is a place where you can see all sorts of exotic animals etc. And if you don't know about Schlitterbahn its a water park. The neat thing about the one in Galveston is that it stays open year around! I suggest going on the very tall pink slide. It is such an adrenaline rush. But don't get on it if your afraid of heights.

The Island is pretty much a tourist town so there is not a whole lot to choose. Hit the beach just to walk on the seawall. eat at a nice restaurant, and go to Moody Gardens or Schlitterbahn. I would also suggest taking a ferry ride it free and kinda cool just to go back and forth.

There are a lot of nice hotels along the Seawall, may I suggest the San Luis, Hotel Galvez, or the Holiday Inn, also try the Hampton Inn. Some of the hotels have just been built and aren't that old.

Hope you have fun!!!

hi Debra - I stay in Houston, that's approximately an hour's force far off from Galveston, and that i grew-up going there lots. i've got additionally been to Padre some circumstances in the previous. I could desire to agree jointly with your different 2 answerers and say that South Padre somewhat is a nicer sea coast, even however I relatively have some fond memories of starting to be-up going to Galveston. Galveston does have some staggering issues approximately it, however the sea coast somewhat isn't one. that's often somewhat grimy and pungent, and a few circumstances while there are oil spills out in the Gulf, the oil finally ends up on the sea coast. that's been a jointly as considering the fact that i've got been to Padre, yet I do submit to in recommendations being blown-away via how sparkling the sea coast replaced into (staggering, white sand), as a results of fact my assessment replaced into to Galveston. relatively advise South Padre for a quick little getaway jointly with your sons. reward to you.

I was there one time. We visited Moody Gardens. Very nice place. They also have an aircraft museum and railroad museum that sound interesting, but I didn't see them. And of course there is the beach. It is an island after all.

I lived not far from there for years. Any hotel on the beach is nice (HOLIDAY IN SUN SPREE is cheap and quite nice)

You have got to go eat at FishTails. Go South on down the each road (I cant remember the name of the road) and you will see it on the left.
