Apple Corp makes the plastic case for their computers. That's it. The motherboard is Asus, graphics by ATI, CPU by Intel, RAM by Corsair or other, harddrive by Toshiba, screen and drives and everything else is 3rd party. Apple puts it together and gives you their warranty, just like HP and Dell. This isn't a secret. You can go to "About This Mac" under the blue Apple on your Mac and see who makes everything.
In response to the iPhone, Microsoft is selling the same touch-screen Windows Mobile phones they've been selling for years. Windows Mobile phones have a physical slide-out keyboard, longer battery life, MS Office '07, wireless hardware syncing (to projectors for PowerPoint, etc), resolution independent DeepFish web browser, and costs less than half the price.
Why would I buy an iPhone with no physical keyboard, no battery life, no productivity software, no hardware syncing, and then pay way more money? Because it's "trendy"? No thanks, hehe.

easily for a universal technology resourceful product like this i might spend $899 i do no longer understand how they have been given it down plenty. My ipod I only offered 2 years in the past value $599 and could no longer even play video. Apple offered fingerworks patents and likewise extra their own gonna be confusing for laptop makers to repeat this, may be a mac only undertaking for some years.

Well, I don't think it's going to happen. From my understanding, a lot of the technologies used in the iPhone have been patented by Apple. Why would I want a machine that runs Windows? Mac OS X is far more advanced. Apple themselves is already working on multi-touch computers that will put any tablet PC to shame. Multi-touch doesn't mean anything if you don't have awesome software to make use of it. Apple's already far ahead of the competition in this aspect. The software technology used in the iPhone is bound to end up in a Mac sometime soon. Microsoft can try to imitate Apple, which I'm sure they will, but as always, it will never be quite as good as the original. The Zune is a good example of poor imitation. Remember, Microsoft is a software company. They don't build their own hardware. Apple builds both hardware and software. Microsoft could never pull off anything like the iPhone.
