Check the sound driver in the device manager
Start-right click computer-properties-hardware-device manager
Make sure the driver is working and up to date

Whenever there is a problem with sound there are a few different places you need to look:

One, and I think you've covered this, is the systems volume settings. Right click the speaker icon and select "Open Volume Control". Once in there, make sure the volume bars are set appropriately and that they aren't checked to mute them. Then close it again.

Right click the speaker icon again and select "Adjust Audio Properties", click on the Audio tab at the top, then make sure your sound card is selected as the default device. If not, change it and click OK. This may require a reboot.

Last, I usually make sure the music program I'm using doesn't have it's own mute and volume controls. Windows Media Player has it's own controls and they can over-ride your windows settings. So make sure it's not muted or set too low there.

If all else fails it's time to reinstall the drivers for your sound card. Go to the manufacturers website, download the new drivers, install them and reboot, and hopefully that will finally do the trick.

Hello. The best two choices that I suggest are: Check the connections (something could have happened) and update your drivers.
You could check this by going to the Device Manager and finding your Sound Device. Then, look at the last update date. If its old, (over a year), get it updated from the manufacturer or a 3rd party source.

my computer had the exact same problem and it was the sound drivers. They were not installed correctly. If you go to the sound drivers, you can just click on the bit that says "reinstall driver". It should fix the problem straight away.
