Overheard after a little league baseball game. "Playing in a game that ends in a tie is like kissing your sister."
I'm not sure I get it.

Oh, I just figured it out.

If you kiss your sister, well, nothing can come of it, because you can't date her or marry her. You can't advance in the relationship because she is your sister. It's a waste of time to kiss your sister.

Games ending in a tie, well, that is a useless act, a waste of time. Neither side was proven to be better than the other. They may as well not even have bothered having the game, goes the thinking, because no one triumphed, no one advanced their standing in the rankings. It was just a futile experience having those 2 teams play each other. Nothing was accomplished. No progress was made in determining who is the better team.

Hmmm, if you hadn't asked that question, I wouldn't have figured it out either. It made me think! Thanks!

People want a solid victory.

You want to be able to win. Even though you kissed a girl, it's your sister, so it doesn't really count as a "victory". You could kissd her at any time, so there was no real challenge

It means that you cannot emerge victorious. It is not satisfying, nothing can ever come out of it. There's no challenge, it's like putting effort on something pointless.
