As with almost all verbal communication it is not the words, but the tone, inflection, and body language that convey the true meaning. If she has a husky voice, speaks softly, and leans in she is flirting. If she speaks normally and maintains personal space she is replying.

I would say that they are two idiots trying to sound smart. Who would say such cheesy stuff? "Women are like complicated little flowers...?" That's the best someone can come up with to describe women? And then she says it's up to the man to unfold all this nonsense and whatnot. This question makes me want to go outside and stomp on a bunch of roses. How's that for unfolding?

It depends on the setting as much as any other factors.
And that is a fairly stupid reply, IMO. Who pulls apart the petals of a budding flower?
Maybe it was flirting on her part. People usually say stupid things when they flirt.

If we stand only to the phrasing, we can say that she is just replying to what he has said. But, it all depends on HOW she tells it. Is she giggling?? Is she smiling looking in the eyes? Is she playing with her necklace? Is she blushing?? If yes, than she is definitely flirting.
Most of the times it is not what we say but how we say it.

I would say that she is just replying to what he has said because she knows that he has about as much chance of understanding her as she has of understanding him......me I don't even understand myself sometimes.

Sounds kind of sexual to me, especially the part about the unfolding.

I'd say"I'll stay and wait for this flower to bloom and open up to me and show me all it's beauty"(would I be flirting back?)

Unfolding a flower? You don't see the sexual connotation there?

While it may seem a perfectly honest and cleaver way to respond, the shear amount of sexual overtones make it seem like flirting in my book...
