I find it interesting that the conservatives are running around saying their hair is on fire because the minimum wage was raised. Lets see minimum wage has not been raised for how long now 7 or 8 years or even longer and yet, prices have still increased over that time. So tell me again about how the world will end because people who work for a minimum wage might actually be able to get off some of the government programs that you all whine and complain about how you have to pay for, will cripple the economy?

An increase in the minimum wage means that people will have more money to spend. Good lord people. The world is not ending and your hair is not on fire. The wage increase has been long overdue.

So, what's your question? Is it a good thing? Does it really matter? Most people who work full time, get paid more than the minimum wage anyway, all this will end up doing is driving up prices even more, especially since the price of gas is causing everything to go through the roof as it is. And who will be paying for it? The middle class of course.

In the part of the country where I live, that's still about half the minimum people actually get paid - you litterally can't live here for the federal minimum wage (at least, not live, pay taxes, pay rent in a legally-occupied building, etc - there are ways to get buy, just not ways the government aproves of).

What raising the minimum wage does is drive certain jobs out of the local, legal economy. They go grey or black market or, if it's practical, get offshored.

You think this is positive? Tell that to the employees of small businesses - the ones who might be out of a job. You seriously think that every dishwasher, McDonald's worker, and high school kids with summer jobs should make over $7.00 an hour? You can't be serious. If you don't like working for minimum wage, then get some education or get some skills and then get a BETTER job.

The minimum wage causes higher prices and unemployment. Also, the minimum wage actually works against some employees. Instead of letting the market decide your wage (which could be either higher or lower than the current minimum wage), the government sets the amount and businesses tend to use it. You might actually make more if not for the minimum wage.

It's nice to see Congress getting some worthwhile compensation for giving Bush the money he wants for Iraq. I figured that's what Congress was trying to do.
A lot of people will claim this is some how a bad thing. No it isn't. It's good and just. Even if prices went up ( which in itself is debatable) its not right for someone to work for only $5.15 an hour.

Raising minimum wage does nothing. Employers who raise thier wages usually have to raise prices to cover the cost or their profit margin goes down. Basic economics.
Democrats lose again in theupcoming presidential race because 55% of America are smart enough vote on a fiscal basis. Oh yea, and Rosie is doing more harm to liberals than the candidates can make up for.

Too little too late...

If dish washing and janitor jobs could be farmed out to the 3rd world countries for the sake of increased profits they would be.

The industry that has left this country for the above reason has forever crippled our economy.

And the unions (complacent workforces) that remain make it almost impossible to compete globally. As a nation we are wounded and bleeding

So let's get busy handing out that increase to the illegal aliens who will never pay tax.

you're claiming 10 dependents Jose? you have how many jobs? 3?

Enjoy that spiraling inflation. The companies will offset the wages by passing it onto the consumer. So if ou make more than minimum wge your cost of living is going to go up and your standard of living is going to go down. Minimum wagers will be at the same spot in a few months.

This will do nothing but punish the middle class and weaken it.
