Yes, Gonzales should be prosecuted for lying to Congress, he did so more than once. What gives with Bush is that he's trying to avoid throwing yet another fall guy under the bus. His appointments have been miserable failures and this is just another nail in that coffin. Damage control insists that he stand behind Gonzales and not back down, like he did with Rumsfeld for instance. And he has the nerve to talk about Congress playing political games.

Every time George Bush endorses his boy, It is Bye, Bye for the boy. I say that Gonzales should be indicted like Scooter Libby and stop these criminals once and for all. The no confidence vote today will just push this process forward. I figure George Bush is just stalling to figure out who is next in line for Gonzo's job. Bush certainly doesn't have many other choices to pick from with his own day's being numbered.

Gonzales is a tool. Bush will continue to support him because that's just the way he is and he doesn't want to go to the trouble of appointing a new AG.

"It is a blight upon the Department of Justice that Gonzales is still the attorney general.
We are brought back to the dark days of the Nixon era, where the tentacles of politics
reach into the Department of Justice and threaten our core notions of what justice means."
-- Eliot Spitzer, New York attorney general turned governor

It's easy to understand. Bush will express support for everyone of his minions, no matter what. Even if the truth is obvious as in this case, he will support them as long he doesn't have to admit being wrong.
