Just found out that our UHL hockey team is being replaced with the AHL. what is the diff between then?

No,i am not from Utah. did go to college there though. I live in the Quad Cities.. (cities in Iowa and ILL with the mississippi river right between them)

A UHL team would be a 2nd tier farm team for an NHL team

For example the Nashville Predators (NHL) are affiliated with the Milwaukee Admirals (AHL) and then the Rockford Ice Hogs(UHL) are affiliated with the Admirals

The UHL is at the bottom of the minor leagues and the AHL is at the top. We have two AHL teams in my state.

The big difference is that the AHL is directly affiliated with the NHL. The AHL is the minor league just below the NHL. In other words, you'll see better players and more future NHLers on your team now. It is a good thing. Congratulations!

The AHL is one step below the NHL. UHL is a few steps down.

As stated above, the AHL is like AAA baseball, it uses players that are right on the cusp of playing in the NHL.
