Are they easy to take care of and to buy?

I've kept and bred them several years ago. They are fun to watch (especially when they eat), but they don't seem to be found that often in stores.

Most of their care is easy, but the one water parameter that causes too many of them to have a premature death is the water temperature. They were originally native to deep lakes where the water is cold and has little dissolved oxygen. So before getting one, you should consider what you would have to do to keep their water temperature 60-65o. I used undergravel filters in their tanks if I used gravel in them, and used an air pump with a valve added to the tubing so I could keep the air flow to a minimum. If the water has too much dissolved oxygen, they will lose the gills and become land animals.

Here's a link to a website just about axolotls so you can see what you'd need to do to care for them: http://www.axolotl.org/

Yes, they are beautiful and its so easy to look after them.
I used to have two, a gift from a friend. I never saw anywhere that sells them so you'll probably have to shop around.
You should also make sure you do some research to know exactly where to buy the food they need. When I had mine the only place that sold the food they ate was more than 100miles away.
Good Luck.

I have kept axolotls for over a year now- they are very interesting pets but take a lot of looking after take a look at www.axolotl.org and the forum - I've found it invaluable while I've been keeping mine.

yes, in fact they can be kept with fish. If one of there limbs get bite of in a feeding frenzy they can grow it back. If you dont have aquarium you can keep them out of water and theyll turn into an adult they have somthing called neoteny thats why they look like they stay young all the time. Dont forget they're a newt they need to be kept moist at all times.

Say what? What are Axoltls? I'd say you should get a parrot like a Sun Conure, they are pretty birds and are easy to take care of and are pretty darn smart. Mine can talk, skateboard, shoot mini basketballs in a mini basketball hoop.
