Special education, math, and science teachers are needed badly. Other areas like language arts, social studies... too many teachers not enough jobs. Florida, New Orleans, and Kansas City are looking for teachers in every area.... the location is important to finding a teaching job.

Job market has been soft, more teachers than positions. Also depends on the part of the country that you live in. i.e. Las Vegas has a big demand for teachers!
However, many teachers are retiring and thus market should become stronger
Also, depends on which area you can teach. For example, math teachers are in high demand

Forget about the educational system. The more cuts that are made the more you should consider being a private teacher to those who really do want to learn. You will have very few behavior problems because your students will want to work with you and you will be paid well if not better then anything you can expect in public education. Explore self employment.
