I started taking prenatal vitamins because were going to start trying in Sept. Following the advice of my MW. I had my cycle twice in March and haven't had one since then. MW gave me a pregnancy test and it came back (-) Can it be because I'm taking the Prenatal vitamins that they are screwing up my hormones. So I'm not having a cycle? No cycle =no ovulation =no baby right? Please help me understand.
Thank you in advance for your all of your help.

The excessive iron in prenatal vitamins is toxic to the human body. The upper tolerable level from all sources -vitamins and diet is considered to be 45mg by the FDA and yet many prenatal vitamins contain 45-60mg. This is not healthy for anyone, except perhaps those with a proven inability to absorb iron.

There are even studies linking the use of prenatal vitamins with lowered birth weight for the baby and immune system problems in the mothers. And that is for women who only take them for 9 months.

The only thing that you need more of when you are trying to conceive is folic acid. If you can not get 800mg from your diet you might consider adding a suppliment. If your diet is generally poor in other ways then a women's multivitamin (higher in calcium than the regular ones) may also be advisable.

You should also be aware that menstruation has nothing to do with ovulation. You can ovulate without menstruating, and menstruate without ovulating. However generally when everything is happening properly the two happen in sync. But life would be pretty boring if we worked like a timex ;-).

Your midwife should be starting to run some tests on hormone levels and nutrition.

No. All prenatal vitamins are is a mixture of vitamins and nutrients. You can take flinstone vitamins and get the same effect. But there's not any narcotics in prenatal vitamins, so the only thing that could happen is if you get more nausea because those are some big lookin horse pills. I didn't take prenatal vitamins, but I did take flinstone chewables and I got the same thing, and I ate foods with a lot of folic acid. But you can get pregnant immediately after a miscarriage, but it doesn't have anything to do with the prenatal vitamins.

The prenatal vitamins don't control your cycle or hormones. The prenatal vitamins give your body extra vitamins and minerals that baby's need while they're growing in your uterus.

there are no hormones in prenatal vitamins. They're just regular vitamins with extra folic acid and some other vitamins that are crucial to a developing fetus. They should have no effect on your cycles.

The prenatal vitamins have nothing to do with your failure to conceive. If you haven't had a period since March and you aren't pregnant, you should see your doctor.

Prenatals won't mess with your hormones...but stressing over it will.

No vitamins have nothing to do with it.
