I would have to agree. You'll just have mental side effects thats all.

Ahh finally something I really know about, I have extensive first hand experience with acid....
LSD is not physically addictive however, as with ANY drug, it can become mentally addicting. This is more dependent on the user than the drug. There are NO physically addictive qualities to LSD.
As for your second question, it can cause long term damage to your nervous system. These effects can include paranoid delusions, persistent psychosis, and long term depression.
When considering the "physically dangerous" aspect of your question, you must also consider that this is an hallucinogen, which means that, while in and of itself it isn't necessarily harmful, it can cause you to do harm to yourself and others. A bad trip is something that you cannot predict (although if the right mood is set, the risk can be lessened).
I hope this helps.
I just read the answers from others and I have to clear up a few things:
LSD DOES NOT CAUSE SCHIZOPHRENIA, it can exacerbate the condition if you're predisposed to it... The Psych degree guy should really know that.
Also, it is an acid, in NO way related to opium.

LSD, Lysergic Acid Diamine causes a variety of mental disturbances including schizophrenia. Whilst most may be relatively short-lived, some people are permanently mentally injured by taking LSD... and in some cases this may be caused by only one dose.
Remember that LSD is illegal. This means that there is no quality control in its manufacture and all sorts of other unpleasant chemicals may be mixed in the with LSD, either deliberately or accidentally.
The hallucinations that LSD causes can recur as flashbacks for a considerable time after taking the drug. In the worst cases, people on LSD have been killed because they believed they could fly and jumped from buildings or attempted other stupid acts whilst under the influence of LSD.
LSD is not addictive in the same way that, for example, heroin is addictive but people get hooked on the thrill and sensation of taking it. If you really *MUST* take LSD, do so in a group and have one designated person who doesn't take it so they can help out anyone who suddenly decides they're a bird or whatever they might do.

LSD is not physically addictive but it can alter DNA sequences.
It can be physically dangerous through its chemical action in the neural interstices (it 'short circuits' the synapses allowing random patterns). The resulting hallucinations can and has caused people to do dangerous and sometimes fatal things.
All in all, it isn't a good alternative to your own imagination.
Plus, there is the minor problem of its being illegal.
Addendum: I just saw one of the other posters state that LSD is a derivative of opium. NOT TRUE. LSD is based on a form of mold that grows on certain grains. A weaker precursor to LSD had affected peasants in medieval England causing all sorts of curious activity. Known then as 'St Vitus' Dance'.

Any chemical drug can be addicting. Its not physically dangerous? Does that matter? It has the highest suicide rate amongst all chemical drugs, so pretty much its a lose lose situation if you think about it. And even if it isnt physically dangerous, you never know what else the drug dealer put in it, drugs are mixed with so many different dangerous chemicals these days that arent even supposed to be mixed with the drug. I see people talking about LSD damaging your spinal cord and popping your back to get high again...thats Ecstasy, half the people that are answering this question dont know what they are talking about, LSD & Ecstasy are two TOTALLY different drugs.

I used it a loooong time ago. It can be dangerous, because you may do something you "believe" you can do. Like driving really fast and steering with your teeth...a friend of mine did that...that's when we both stopped. I picked apart a tree 'cuz I thought it was plastic. The high also lasts a long time. I thought I had bad nicotine stains on my fingers, and I used bleach to try to get it out. Ya, that hurt, and the pain got through to me enough to stop.
I don't know if it's addictive, I only did it once. But I can say, for sure, that none of my friends ever got addicted to it.
Don't do it...I was lucky...I had a good "trip", but I know people who had bad ones, and had to go to the hospital...not because they were hurt, but because the stuff they saw was so bad...monsters trying to kill them...one spent a night in the psyche ward.
Don't do it, it's not worth the risk.
BTW...I just took it, didn't think about the consequences...like I said, I was lucky.

LSD is fun and not really addictive but can be very harmful. I have watched people O.D> on LSD and that is not a pretty experience, Trust me. But still one of my Favorites! I stopped doing all drugs besides caffeine though when I had children because they are so dangerous.

there is no physical addiction and usually after repeated uses in a short time the body will send you signals to stop and let it rest. By physical dangers I assume you mean the drugs effect on the body, asside from rapid deplettion of vitamins and minerals, possible need for added hydration and loss of sleep. I can think of none.

LSD can be psychologically damaging and addicting, which is in many ways even worse - no one likes having their mind messed up! Also, strychnine, which is a breakdown product often found on LSD tabs, is rat poison. It makes your jaw lock and your back hurt. It can give you extreme stomach cramps and make it hard to move.

Addictive? No...
Physically dangerous, yes....
I was at a new years eve "Tripping" party back in 1994...while we were all fine hanging out in the house, coloring, chilling, tripping... things got strange when we decided to go take a walk...
We came upon a bridge, over a canal...and one of the girls we were with decided she was going to "Fly like a bird to see the pretty lights"... off the bridge... by the grace of god we got her down & back inside.... One of the other girls was outside hugging a tree.... while not life threatening, can you imagine the splinters?
If I had to do it again, I wouldn't...
Just some thoughts based on experience...

Although LSD is generally considered nontoxic, it may temporarily impair the ability to make sensible judgments and understand common dangers, thus making the user susceptible to accidents and personal injury.
