It's a way of annoying your friends, getting other people's attention, having poke wars are also fun and if you poke someone that isn't your friend and they poke back you can view their profile even if it's private 👍🏼😉

It really serves no purpose but should be done with care- remember in Friends when the crew decided they would poke ugly naked guy with the longest straw in the world! Yep, sometimes poking people on facebook can have the same results...

well the facebook people want it to look like they have something that other social networks dont have, so they add a completely useless tab 'poke'. or then in could be a way to get noticed by the person[s] who pokes you. makes a bit or sence yeah?

good question because i wonder the same thing...i never saw the purpose. it says you can see the other person's profile for X amount of days, but it never works.
