A corset may help to flatten the appearance of your midsection, but they're majorly uncomfortable. Something like Spanx Bodyshapers might be more of what you're looking for. They'll help to smooth out your problem areas, and are pretty comfortable to wear. For the dress, you might want to look into something with an empire waist. That means the waistline on the dress is raised to just below the bust (generally the smallest part on most women), which makes you look thinner, and your legs longer. The skirt of the dress is loose, and will just float away from the body, which is flattering to most body types.
