Unpatriotic???? Defending the president is no more unpatriotic than questioning the president. You just want to justify your feelings. What is unpatriotic is pretending to be opposed to something that clearly the majority of americans and a majority of congress supported. Since the war was not won in under two hours like it is in the movie theatres, americans are upset. Hillary Clinton is suggesting that she was lied to. Like she was lied to about Flowers and Lewinsky. Seems to me that she can't be trusted to know the truth from a lie.

It's certainly not patriotic to /never/ question the government. OTOH, /constantly/ distrusting the government to the point that you obstruct it's workings isn't exactly patriotic, either. It's also something other than patriotic to root for the other side in a war. There are a lot of things that could be reasonably considered un-patriotic.

The President, Congress, the Supreme Court, state assemblies, Governors, etc. are not the government in America.
We are a government of the people, by the people, and for the people.
Questioning or criticizing elected officials is a matter of running the government. They are our servants. No one questions a home owner that questions a maid because the silverware is missing. It is valid.

I agree that criticism of government is good, important, and necessary. Patriotism for one's country and loyalty to one's government / administration shouldn't be confused or conflated. That being said - I find the most vocal opponents of the US government don't like this country and don't have its best interests at heart. In fact, they'll be the first people to tell you that the whole world hates us, that we deserve it, that we're horrible and corrupt and evil, how they can't wait to leave, and that we should repent now or live in eternal fear of hellfire and damnation.

Henry David Thoreau, On the Duty of Civil Disobedience
"The mass of men serve the state...with their bodies....A very few — as heroes, patriots, martyrs, reformers in the great sense, and men — serve the state with their consciences also, and so necessarily resist it for the most part; and they are commonly treated as enemies by it."

I question Government no matter who the players are. All governemnt policy seems to represent a collective departure from common sense and it drives me crazy that the people who don't question such policy are probably the same who expect far too much from it!

Because like so many other americans Elizabeth has tunnel vision. Her psyche is probably to delicate to think that her government is doing something that is wrong... it would wreck her world as she knows it so she refuses to believe facts.
Did you see the one where they gave her evidence of our military leaders giving orders for those tourtures and she still refused to belive it or kept making excuses for it? Its too much for her to handle.
Really, I dont blame these people who live in the tunnel vision... its really scary and induces a lot of anxiety when you realize that your government isnt doing the right thing and it seems like you have no control whatsoever over it.

I totally agree with you. The moment we stop questioning the government is the day we are no longer a democratic country.
