I stopped breastfeeding over two months ago and i still produce milk. With my first child it took almost a year for me to fully dry up and my doctor told me that only a small percentage of women have that problem. Is there anything that i can do to speed this process up? I don't think they prescribe anything for it anymore but I really don't want to leak for a year like last time.

This is an old wives tale but take a cabbage leaf and wear it up against your breast inside a tight sports bra. One leaf for each breast. Something women here in the south had to do before meds and stuff was created. I don't know why, but it works. Go figure!!!

Your regular Dr. should be able to prescribe pills to help dry up. They will give you the script, if you tell them it's a problem (plus it could give you an infection, the supply of milk, not the pills!)
Also sage, the herb, is supposed to help suppress milk production.

The cabbage leaves work very very well. Just crumble them up a little to get the juices flowing, before putting them in the cup of your bra.
I didn't believe until I tried it. Works like a charm.
You can do it for about an hour to help engorgement too.

If you breastfeed again in the future the best answer is to wean your child more slowly. As for now, a tighter bra with pressure applied to the nipple by use of a couple of nursing pads could help. Good luck.

Wear tight comforable bras...avoid stimulating them...They stopped prescribing meds, because of the links to breast cancer. I breast fed four and it took almost a year after each to completely dry up... it's normal...unless you are like able to full on flow. Key is not to stimulate them...don't let you man do it either...

This is rather strange. I breastfeed four kids and never had milk past a couple weeks with any of them. You need to call your ob/gyn. This sounds hormonal to me and they should be able to help you. Good luck!

i presumed I had study at here that cabbage leaves is a therapy for blocked milk ducts and mastitis? i might verify with a doctor, i understand weaning could nicely be somewhat worrying for the two mommy and toddler, and that they are absolute to have the wonderful information on weaning.

My sister-in-law did not want to breastfeed so she took witchazel to dry up her milk supply. To me that seems weird. I'd do as another user suggested and go to you gyno.

Talk to your doc about taking Sudafed. That can help to dry you up.
