What others have said is correct,
But there is a fish, a cartilaginous one and a marine form called Chimera. Its anatomical features are such that it is regarded as a connecting link between a cartilaginous and a bony fish.

This is a hard question to answer because chimeraism has been happening in nature over millions of years. It's estimated that a significant % of our DNA didn't start off as human DNA. As the theory goes viruses that can infect more than one species could pick up genes or snippets of DNA and pass it on to another species when that new virus infects it. In fact scientists have taken advantage of a viruses natural ability to transfer DNA to complete some genetic engineering.

Is it wrong for people to do it? I guess it would depend on what people, what their reasons would be and are the benefits worth the risk. I think we have to be very careful as we move into this emerging field of science.

Essentially its forced evolution by forced variation. Ultimately we as humans are as yet illequipped to know the full extent of many of the changes we make, so care needs to be taken to prevent chimera's reproducing with wild specimens [for instance GM crops are usually highly contained or genetically modified to be infertile].

I don't think it is wrong, I think it is very interesting. The scope for genetics is almost unbounded and may help cure many diseases, and in the future we may be able to artificially grow made to measure organs for people so transplant lists will be slashed.

There are some boundaries that should not be crossed, for instance I do not feel designer babies are a good thing. If you have a heriditary illness then it would be useful to prevent your child having or carrying the condition, but if it ever gets to the point where people are picking and choosing characteristics their children will have [hair colour, even dominant personality traits] then we need to seriously consider our motives.

However science is as yet quite far from these ethical borders and as long as we realise where they are and do not cross them [unless we only cross them to come back within the boundary, sometimes rules need to be broken in exceptional circumstances] then I think chimeras and genetic research is fine.

There are actually cases of human chimeras. One involved a woman whose children were DNA tested and found out not to be related to her, even though she had given birth to them. It turned out that her body had several different DNA types in her cells - her own DNA didn't match DNA from other sites in her own body! Scientists are just now trying to find out how common this is. I don't know the name of the program but it comes on the Discovery Channel every now and then.

In mythology it is refered as a thing of immortal make, not human, lion-fronted and snake behind, a goat in the middle,
& it can breathe FIRE

but yeah it means animal made by the parts of multiple animals

Applied to genetics :chimerism refers to an animal that has two or more different populations of genetically distinct cells that originated in different zygotes

in the end it means ur right

There are two definitions of chimera --- one a mythical creature of Etruscan culture. If you wish to see one, see if you can find the Chimera of Arezo --- the real one is the Archeological Museum in Florence, a copy in the city of Arezo.

Then there is the medical Chimera, and you can google that to find out how it works

We are all chimeras because we have some of our mom's cells mixed in with ours.
