I think he'll surface next season. If you will clock the length of time it took Charlie to dive from the boat (while holding the bag of rocks) until he surfaced inside the Looking Glass, you will see that it took him much longer than the length of time he was under water showing Desmond the note that read "It's not Penny's boat," before he got sucked toward the blown-out porthole window. If he survived the lengthy dive down, what would stop him from surviving the short time he was under water showing Desmond the note?

Charlie is gone.
We've known for a long time now that a fan favorite would sacrifice himself for the good of the other Losties.
Plus, a direct quote from Evangeline Lilly tells us that Dominic Monaghan's contract wasn't renewed when the others were. And she would know.
"Why didn't he just shut the door from the side Desmond was on and then the two of them could have escaped using the scuba equipment?"
I thought the same thing for about a moment then realized that the door probably only latches from the inside.

Yeah I loved Charlie too but I think it's safe to say it's over for him. That was one weirdo ending last night, I don't even know what the hell happened. That diver guy did pull a granade out but then that new chick said she got word he was rescued. I think he's dead though. I can't wait for next season.

Unfortunately, yes. But why didn't he just shut the door from the side Desmond was on and then the two of them could have escaped using the scuba equipment? Even if he didn't think about that, he could've fit through the window that got blown out by the grenade. It was big enough. He was able to hold his breath to swim down that far, he could've made it back up.

Everyone is questioning why he wouldnt just swim out. The reason why he locked himself in was to drown. Desmond told him he had to die in order for everyone to be rescued. Otherwise it would of altered events.

Yes. Definetly. It was such a bittersweet death i don't think they'd bring him back plus he died to help claire and everyone else. I knew locke wasn't dead though(unfortunately) after he got shot.
To Mellisa B: B/c then he knew claire wouldn't be saved and they wouldn't get rescued

I dunno if he will die, cos that Desmond 'Brother' always seems to predict stuff that actually happens. I hope Charlie doesnt die tho. But did you see the one where Locke gets shot!!! That one was pretty scary, it was overdue for some excitement cos I find that Lost gets a bit boring. It seems to be retreiving itself now tho.

I read that he was dead. writes/producers confirmed it. Look around lostpedia.com I cannot remember exactly were. Also if you think about it he loved Claire and in order for the vision to be true he has to drown
