Ok, I hope someone can help me. I don't know what info you need as far as model type, so I am going to put in everything that is on the whole computer. I have a HP 17" Flat Panel Monitor with built in speakers, 1280x1024 @75 Hz Max resolution Analog. . HP 64 Athlon, light scribe DVD+RW drive, Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 Compaq Presario. OKAY, I hope someone can decphier that. Anyways, we do not have internet hooked up to this computer, never have. Only been up and running since Easter. The only thing that it has been used for is to play Sims 2 on it. Maybe an hour a day several times a week. Has a power surge protecing outlet. All plugs are tight and where they should be. Nothing loose. We shut down the computer during a storm. Unplugged main outlet. Which is our practice during a storm. After the storm plugged everything in and monitor will only come on for a second or two. Then states it is asleep. Other computer in home is working fine. Any suggstions?

Plug this monitor into the other computer and make sure the monitor works fine.

IF the monitor is ok, then the problem is with your PC that the monitor was connected to. It could be that there are two connections that you can possibly connect the monitor to on the back of the PC. When you unplugged the PC, the BIOS may have defaulted to the on-board graphics instead of an add-in card. I don't know your setup, so this is just a suggestion to get you going.

IF the monitor didn't work with the other known good PC/Monitor, then your monitor could be bad, but the "sleep" message you said was on the monitor suggests that the monitor is ok.

I hope this helps

Check the video cable connections to make sure that they did not come loose.

Swap the monitor with the one on your other computer and see if the behavior follows the monitor or the PC.

Either your monitor or your video card has a problem. The monitor is going to sleep because it does not have a signal. Either it does have a signal, but is not recognising it (dead monitor) or there is no signal and it is acting normally (dead video card).

Everything breaks at some point. It may just be syncronicity that something died at the same time as the storm.

it is either a problem with the computers video device or the monitor. i've had this problem before on an old computer, sometimes the monitor would work and sometimes it wouldnt. technically speaking the problem is that the monitor is not recieving a video signal. to test wether it's the monitor or not you could see if you could find another monitor and if it works fine then you know it is a problem with the monitor.

For flat screen monitors u need to instal software so that ur computer can work with it. If you didnt shut it down right it may have corupted it. The only sugestion that i have is to reinstall your monitor drivers.
(if you shut it down correctly then still try and reinstall the drivers.)

It probably got damaged by the storm. I didn't read your long question properly because I really only want 2 points. Bye. Buy a new screen you cheapskate.
