Quote from Kim:
"AMERICA IS THE LEADER OF THE FREE WORLD...
You foreigners need to sit back, take notes, and learn how to handle matters from us. Diplomacy didn't work with Saddam Hussein. In fact, he tried to disrespect us for a decade. When you do that, expect to get your *** kicked"
I think Kim's answer sums up why the rest of the world isn't very keen on the US.
Let us see why the world REALLY doesn't like the US:
- The United States supports obnoxious regimes for its own selfish purposes, notably in Latin America, the Middle-East and South-East Asia. It has funded, and continues to fund armed coups against democratically elected Governments it disagrees with. It funded the Contras in Nicaragua in the 1980s who killed over 30,000 civilians. It funded the coups that swept away democratically elected governments in Iran, Chile, Venezuela, Bolivia and Columbia and replaced them with military dictatorships. This is even more striking considering the US does out of it's way to preach and harangue countries about democracy.
- The US ignores global opinion and consesus, unless it serves their interests. It has pulled out of Kyoto, the ABM treaty, the land mine treaty and the 1972 Biological Weapons convention, for no other reason that American economic interests come before the health and security of the rest of the world.
- The US only looks out for its own interests, irrespecive of the cost to anyone else. The US contains 4% of the world's population but produces about 25% of all carbon dioxide emissions. By comparison, Britain emits 3% - about the same as India which has 15 times as many people.
- The USA is one of the richest countries in the world but also one of the stingiest. US manages to give just 0.1% of GDP as aid. Over 50% of its aid budget is spent on middle-income countries in the Middle East. 80% of that aid goes to American companies in those foreign countries. It also cannot seem to afford to pay any of it's UN dues (and hasn't for over a decade), then expects the UN to be at it's beck and call.
- And let's face it - you're just damn arrogant. For reference, despite what Hollywood tells you, the USA did NOT save Europe in World War 2. Russia, France and the UK were the principal opponents of Germany (aided by US equipment that these countries are still paying for 60 years later). The US's entry to the war was forced, not chosen and it's motives were self-defence not world-wide good. I'm a member of the so-called "free world" (and probably a lot free-er than you in the US) and guess what - you're not my leader. We didn't choose you. We democratically elect our own leaders, thanks very much.
We get that a lot of these opinions are a result of exposure to an uncritical US media. The fact is many Americans don't know what their government is doing abroad, they don't know that the rest of the world is international or that most developed countries have news services that cover the whole world, critically. They are led, in a culture of patriotism and flag-waving, to believe that the only reasons for disliking American is a hatred "of freedom", or envy.
Please, for once, use the brains God gave you and think before you engage in the primal scream of "you're anti-American" "you hate freedom etc".

When will YOU understand that the only person I need to impress is myself...if the rest of the world hates me then BOOYA for them...it is a reflection of their ignorance if they cannot see beyond their own nose and try to get to know me. I was always taught that hate was fueled by envy...and at the rate of immigration in this fine country it seems to hold true...so I suppose the real question would be Why does the rest of the world ENVY us?
This is not arrogance, just a different view of the same issue, it is no more preposterous than the question you asked.

I think its because from inside our bubble we make grand generalizations about the people of other countries and then we compare them to some evil regime like the Nazis or North Korea....wait your question sounds a lot like that...
The rest of the world is living in a glass house trying to throw rocks at the us. Look at the mess Europe left Africa in. Where are they now? Just ignoring your mess doesn't make you any better.
We are one of the top contributers in financial aid on the federal level and our citizens are even more conscientious. Take your head out of the sand and stop the hate.

I am truly sorry that you are operating under the very mistaken assumption that we actually care about your feeeeeelings (whoa, whoa, whoa feeeeeelings) about us.
This is probably based upon your very mistaken assuption that your feelings (whoa, whoa, whoa feeeelings) are important in the least to anybody but you.
That's just a symptom of the insufferable egotism of being an international elitist.
Get over it. Because, I assure you, nobody in your country, nor in any other country, gives a fig what Americans feel about them. Understand?

We are a noble nation who has done more for humanity than any other country in the history of the planet. Sure we have some problems but we have liberated millions of people of tyrrany. You will never convince me otherwise.

The issue is not that the world hates us as a people, they hate what the government does on our behalf.
Big difference.
We have a lot of folks with different points of view and the internal debate rages while the world see that as well.
In my opinion, Americans as people are loved around the world. Our culture and freedoms (dwindling as they maybe,) and our diversity are traits that people from around the world genuinely love and admire.
Our policies on the other hand are another issue.
It's the same with the debate at home, if you don't agree with the government, you're subject to attacks of being unpatriotic or being called worse.
We'll never lead the world in diplomacy if even can't even have a civil discourse here at home without resorting to childish name calling just because we disagree with each other. And both side are guilty, but in my humble opinion, the attacks from the right are a little more vile.

I understand perfectly why we are hated and its not because they are jealous of us . We cause death pain and misery every place we go .
We have never learned that peace has a reward beyond any you can imagine .
The trillions of dollars spent to build a nuclear arsenal and conventional weapons meant to kill others has made this nation I live in cruel and selfish only concerned with how they can have more then their neighbor does .
We want the mexicans out because so many people are poor enough that the jobs cutting grass and raking leaves are all thats available . Since we make no products that make the world a better place and instead build weapons our government has taxed people who work for a living in this country to death .
With the cost of living and medical care so high our parents are selling their homes one month at a time in whats called a reverse mortgage .
People with money always want more and they always find a way . first build weapons for war then the war then selling the materials to rebuild and the cycle begins again .

We do. Even mom and pop in Boondock, USA.
However, we don't care.
I have lived all over the world and this hatred is only partially justified.
We are certainly not as bad as say the Roman Empire, the Persian Empire, or even the European monarchies with their past colonialization, to other people.
As a black person, I know quite a bit about being unjustifiably hated.
In any case the sentiment backfires: it is a basic psychological fact that the more you attack someone the more DEFENSIVE they become.
Any rational discussion or movement to change the ways we really might be hurting people is destroyed under waves of terrorism and hateful words from around the world.

I for one could care less about what the rest of the world thinks. Since we are hated so much, maybe everyone will quit calling us for aid when they get in a bind, and we can start taking care of our own country and it's people.
