I would steam clean the carpet. That is probably your best chance of getting rid of the smell without pulling up and replacing the carpet. If you use carpet spray products all you are probably going to be doing is covering up the smell instead of really getting rid of it.

And by the way, that's one reason why I decided not to put carpeting in my bathrooms and instead put in linoleum. Linoleum is much easier to clean up bathroom messses. I mean you have little kids and elderly people that miss the toilet, then that soaks into the carpet. And where is the first place people normally head when they are sick and about to throw up? The toilet! Of course if they don't make it there on time it goes right on the bathroom carpet.

Worst case scenario, you can replace the carpet. First, though, I'd try a big old high powered steam cleaner.

We always get little flyers in the mail with coupons for steam cleaners. I end up using them once every few years, and love it. The last time they had an environmental option. It smelled great, and got out stains that we never thought we'd get rid of.

My wife likes to rent a steam cleaner from our local super market. We do this for $20 every few months. It's kinda fun, and gets the rug really clean. Once we had to take it back and get a different vacuum. That was annoying. They should've given us a free bag of cookies.

Try some of the pet stain removal products like Nature's Miracle. Or contact the folks that run the web site below

http://www.stinkypets.com/

They have a recipe for a home made version of the professional pet odour removal products. I sent the link to a friend whose cat had urinated on her bed. She was getting ready to throw away the mattress but the mixture she made with the recipe got the odour right out.

Once the odour is out, I'd go with the advice above and steam clean. When you're ready to do some renovations you may want to look into tile or vinyl flooring for the bathroom.

Good luck

If I were you I'd rip up all the carpet and see if the flooring is bad. You may need to replace the flooring or the carpet may have the smell in it. If you wanted to keep the carpet I'd have to say take it outside to air out. Then you would have to have it cleaned.

I would think you have tried "fabreeze" and the like. Turtle wax make a product called Oder-X, same kind of stuff.
If that did not work, we used to wash our clothes in tomatoe juice when we got skunked when we were kids.
